Growing up in East Anglia, my fascination with things old began in my early childhood years as I waited full of anticipation and excitement to find out what my Father had brought home from his many fishing trips out on the North Sea. Not something to eat – but sometimes an old bottle caught up in his net but quite amazingly untouched by currents and countless storms.
My other source of inspiration came when watching impatiently as he dug the garden to prepare the soil for the vegetables and flowering plants that my Mother was very passionate about. Very often, bits of broken china glistened in the soil. Especially if the broken bits were blue and white, then my excitement could hardly be contained and I rushed indoors to wash the pieces. |
Later as a teenager I scoured the many antique shops and auction houses all around the Suffolk and Essex border. Dedham and Kelveden were always on
the list, and always with the buzz of expecting to find an irresistible thing. My first purchase at auction was a church pew. Unfortunately it had to be
returned as it was too long to fit in the hallway. I had just started high school and some hot water was the result of that escapade.
After moving to Switzerland, but visiting my parents as often as I could, my first “shopping” trips were always to do the rounds of the numerous antique shops near their home. Many a heavy thing was carried back to Switzerland. Over time, my collection of old bottles & other things has become much bigger. The constant favourites are the blue apothecary bottles. Collections were started and included ornaments of elephants, glass objects,
pieces of porcelain and all of which proved irresistible.
Now the time has come to share my things. Some things are old and will always be treasured, other things are newer but pre-loved. Time to part with things and to start collecting memories instead of material objects. Encouraged and made possible by Tom, this website has been set up with the aim to sell a selection of antique and vintage pieces, as well as some newer items that reflect my taste for aesthetically pleasing things.
I hope you will share my passion, and be inquisitive enough to visit.
